A seasonal home maintenance checklist
A generic, region-agnostic checklist you can adapt — useful whether you are planning ahead or catching up after a rough season.
You do not need a 40-item spreadsheet. You need a short loop you will actually run.
Twice a year
- Walk the exterior after storms.
- Test safety devices.
- Note anything that has started making a new sound.
- Photograph problem areas so a specialist can see history.
When seasons change
Heating, cooling, drainage, and building envelope issues show up at the edges of seasons. If you are planning ahead, request an inspection before the first extreme temperature swing, not during it.
When to stop DIY
If a repair would affect structure, fuel, high voltage, or moisture inside walls, pause and get a specialist. Matching is for that moment: you already know it is beyond a hardware-store afternoon.
